Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do you pronounce your name? Where did "ziziosashion" come from?

Zee-zee.. oh… say (not sa)… shien.. = zizi-o-sa-shion.

Zizi was the name I was given when I was born, but later changed it at the age of 12. Osashion is a mix of my last name and fashion.

‘O’ from my last name + ‘-ashion’ from fashion.

2. How tall are you?

I’m between 173 cm and 175 cm - It's been a while since I measured my height.

3. How old are you?

I'm 20. Do I look any older?

4. What’s your ethnicity?

I’m Moroccan-Danish.

5. Do you do sports?

Not anymore, I used to play football from the age of 9-16, then I had too much schoolwork and decided to stop and focus only on school. Now I only run during weekends, if I'm not too lazy ....

6. When did you start wearing the hijab?

Exactly a month before my 14th birthday.

7. What kind of lover are you?

I'm a CANDY-LOVER! NOMNOMNOMN!

8. What inspires you?

Everything. I believe in keeping an open mind. You never know who or what you will draw inspiration from.

9.What is your skin type?

It used to be oily but now it’s super dry and still acne prone. A few scars here and there.

10. Do you have a skincare routine? If so, what is it?

I scrub my face almost everynight and then I use pure argan oil as a moisturizer instead of lotion. In the morning I use cold water to rinse my face and if I feel that my face needs to be washed I'll use a gentle face wash.

11. Are your eyelashes 'real' / your own?

Yes they are. I can make them appear even longer when I take pictures from above. By doing that it'll make my eyelashes touch or almost touch my eyebrows (just like when you look up) which is what gives the effect of having - less eye lid - and longer lashes.

I did try using castor oil w/ vaseline but it hasn't made my lashes any thicker nor any longer. Give it try if you want your lashes thicker, I might not necessarily work but it difinitely won't hurt you - it will only nourish them and make them break less!

12. Do you curl your lashes? How do you take care of them?

Nope, I don't need to. I always apply a thin layer of vaseline before going to bed, so they say moisturized and don't break.

13. When did you start your ‘ootd’ page on Instagram?

I started in October 2013.

14. What are some of your favorite clothing brands?

Currently, my favorite brands are H&M, Monki, Zara, Mango and Urban outfitters.

When it comes to clothes I like to buy from wherever I can and where the prices are 'fair prices'.

15. Where do you buy your scarves?

I buy from a lot of different places, that includes different types of hijabs; maxi, square, polyester, chiffon etc. I mostly wear maxi hijabs in polyester.

I would recommend these two pages since I find the quality good and the prices affordable! And you would only have to wait for a week (approximately) to receive the items.

16. How did you aquire such a large following in such a “short” period of time? How can I do the same?

I never intended on growing my page to where it is at now. I made @ziziosashion on Instagram because I thought "why not post up random pictures or pictures of the food I’m about to eat" – basically anything I could snap a shot of except from my face. Later on, after following tons of ‘hijabi’ bloggers and ‘instagrammers’ and becoming sucked into their little ‘worlds’, it triggered a little desire or wish to be ‘something like that’.

A few selfies and maybe one or two ‘ootd’s’ (in low quality) where posted up on the page but it was nothing compared the creative people I was following. One day I got contacted by the sweetest @arabolish and she said ‘hey, I see that you’re an aspiring blogger and I think you should go for it and don’t be shy!’. Well she didn’t exactly say that but her little message was the thing that got me started.

So to you I say the same. If fashion/blogging is your passion, then go ahead and get started. Make your own page, blog/post what you can contribute with to the big fashion world.

Make sure that you tag the big hijab fan pages on your pictures so that you can be featured.

You would also want to make sure you have properly lit photos because no matter how good your outfits look... we as an audience cannot see that talent when the lighting makes your work look muddy/pixelated. Clear photos will always attract more viewers than overly blurred messes. It is okay to edit photos... everyone does it. However, there is a difference between enhancing your talent and putting out a mess of an edit.

Never let anyone's negative comments deter you from exploring your creativity!

17. How do you take photos for Instagram?

Most of the time, I use my Nikon d3200 DSLR camera and edit adjustments such as contrast, exposure, saturation etc in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. I use my iphone5s to take selfies and edit with VSCOcam (this is my all time favorite app for filters and editing the above mentioned adjustments) and sometimes the Afterlight App. My advice is to layer afterlight filters at low opacities. Adjusting settings like shadows, clarity, sharpness, etc are fantastic ways to enhance your photos. For collaging, I use InstaCollage.

18. How do you deal with negative comments?

I ignore them. I would rather spend time replying to my supporters' kind comments. Rude, ignorant, and hateful comments will be deleted and blocked. Bullying my supporters is another way to be permanently blocked. There are plenty of platforms on the internet that will allow people to be assholes - mine is not one of them. Those people are free to broadcast their insecurities elsewhere.

19. How do you feel about people spamming, advertising, or solitciting in your comments?

My page is not your platform, it is mine. Asking people to come check out your page or business in my comments section gets you blocked. Asking for shoutouts, s4s, f4f is not something I do on my page, therefor I’ll either politely decline or delete your comment.

20. How do you get free products?

Companies reach out to artists/influencers with large followings to review and promote their products. I do not accept all products that are offered to me as I do not believe in accepting things just because they are free. If I feel that I will not use that product or it is something that I’m not interested in, I will decline. I do not contact companies for product reviews (ie... I never ask for anything).
